Production management for cement, permanent position in Australia

Our client is one of Australia's largest building and construction materials supplier in Australia, and has significant operations in the USA and in Asia Pacific. The company has over 14,700 employees working across 706 operating sites.

Based in Geelong near Melbourne Australia and as a senior member of the management team, the incumbent is required to lead the Geelong, site Production Department in a progressive manner. The objective is to develop a work culture where Production employees consistently exhibit good teamwork and cooperative behaviour in dealing with their tasks.

The Production Manager ensures that the raw material preparation, clinker making, cement milling and despatch equipment are operated in the most efficient way possible. This involves establishing optimum operational settings for the process and ensuring process operators comply with these standards.

The Production Manager must gain a good understanding of customer needs. The incumbent is required to provide timely feedback especially when customer requirements have not been met, and to continually monitor and improve manufacturing and despatch operations. In turn this should lead to increased customer satisfaction.

You will be responsible for working effectively with the Engineering Manager, Quality Superintendent and Quarry Manager to develop good work practices in operating plant and controlling the manufacturing process, providing accurate feedback on equipment condition and performance to minimize production stoppages, while ensuring that the plant’s assets are maintained in good working order. The Production Manager is responsible for setting the date and length of major maintenance overhauls and for the inspection, installation and maintenance of all refractory on the plant.

The incumbent is also responsible for working with the Quality Superintendent to ensure that all product quality targets are met and operating procedures developed to improve process stability and product consistency.
